Standing in line on Election Day (Tuesday, November 8) is not the only way to vote. Between October 20 and November 5, there will be 10 days to vote early. And you can do it at any of 20 locations throughout Wake County! Whether you have tight work hours, a long commute, can’t get out, or simply do not like to stand in line on Election Day, Early Voting is an excellent option.
Here’s a summary of what you need to know about early voting in Wake County:
- Make sure you register to vote before October 14, 2016, which includes the following requirements:
- Be a citizen of the United States
(if convicted of a felony, complete your full sentence for citizenship rights must be restored – details).
- Be a legal resident of Wake County for 30 days by Nov. 8, 2016.
- Be 18 years of age.
– if need be, you can register in person after 10/14 at the Early Voting Locations provided you have an approved proof of residence.
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Check the Wake County Board of Elections website for a sample ballot (after late August) so you can see who you’ll be voting for, and do your research in advance.

NOTE: You are not required to use the location closest to your home – it can be near work or any other Wake County location!
- At this point, there is no longer a requirement to take a picture ID to vote, however, that may be the case in future elections. The matter is under appeal in the Courts.These 8 Early Voting centers operate October 20 through October 26:
